Interesting day on Thursday!!

Got out on the lake a bit late IMO. Mid-Morning ... Beautiful Day! The lake was like glass, yet nothing ... Not take downs, bites, nibbles nothing. Fished HARD on 520. At about 12:30, I noticed a "hatch" of sorts ... Not sure what it was. However, lots of bait all of a sudden up on the surface. Several bait balls, which I couldn't tell what they were. Trolled over a couple of them, and they looked to be 3-4 inches long. Didn't look like Stickle Back, almost looked like Sockeye fingerlings.

Anyway .. the bite was on, and after absolutely no action in the morning, I pick up 5 Cuttrhoats in a matter of 1-2 hours, and then the bait dissapeared, along with the trout. I've seen this before in the Early Mornings, never in the Middle of the day. WEIRD.

Trolling spoons .. Albalone, Red/White, and Brass.

No camera, so took measurements on the largest, which was a FATTY at 28" X 11.5" = 4.6lbs

Learn something new, every time I go out.

could have been an algae of plankton bloom, that usually happens in mid-day with warmer water and more sunlight. i have seen this several times on variouse lakes. probably the only time when fishing is best in mid day

I saw that bait "hatch" that you described as well in the evening last week on the north side of Mercer Island. A few of them would jump and skipp on the surface periodically. How deep were you trolling?

I was thinking the same think ..Plankton? So seeing as the bait was on the top, I just went about 10-12' deep and tolled like a "Bat out of Hell !!!

Little Trib .. Exactly! ..... I've seen them before, yet not in the middle of the day. "Skippers" across the top of the water, and fairly large ball of bait ... 15-20' in circumfrence I would guess. Skittish tho .. couldn't get too close, so I just long lined it ( 50-60' ) behind the boat, and circled them from a distance.

PS... Took a client out Friday morning and did pretty well again mid-morning. ... This weather may change things up ... For the better and the worse. Surface temp was up to 62 degrees on Friday.

Saturday, as I type this, there is a Bass tournament going on.... So lot's of guys on the lake, plus LOTS of weekend warriors with the family and pleasure craft .... The boat ramps are going to be a mess!!

I saw a really weird boat from New Zealand ... It had two wheels in the Stearn, one one the Bow with articulated hydrolic arms with "all terrain fatty wheels" that lowered down which would lift it up off the ground and "drive" like a car down the ramp, into the water, then the wheels would lift back up and tuck into a wheel well of sorts. The guy was showing it off, on the Mercer Isaland Ramp. Going in and out of the water with no trailer.... $90K for the Boat and power assisted wheels with some kind of drive train ... about 18' in length ... Looked like a weird Boston Whaler of sorts.

For 90K, I would get a better/bigger boat and just wait for the tide to come in or find a decent ramp !! LOL :-)
