Launched at about 8:30am and went over to the VA Hospital. Trolled a chartruese wedding ring with a copper hammered blade I tied up and picked up 10 fish there, mostly about 10 inches with one 14 inch rainbow.

Moved over toward the launch for a while and continued to catch fish. We decided to go back to the VA and caught a 16 inch Rainbow. Water was calm in the AM and a slight breeze in the Afternoon. Ended up with 19 fish in the boat and many lost.

Water temp was 56-57 degrees. Most of the fish caught were in the top 5 feet of the water column.

2 people in the boat...C&R all fish with the exception of the 14 and the 16inch trout that my sis kept. No bait used...just wedding rings

What test line do you use when tieing your wedding rings? Do you let the beads slide down to the hook or is there a space between the hook and beads?

I place a 3mm bead just above the hook, then the stack beads and wedding ring. I put another 3mm bead on top of everything, then the clevis and a size 3 hammered brass spinner blade. I use 10lb fluorocarbon. In fact, the main line on all of my rods are always fluorocarbon. I believe it makes a difference.

MotoBoat, I made a mistake in my last post. I use a 4mm bead above the hook and at the top of the stack beads, not a 3mm bead. Everything slides down to the hook where I tied an egg loop knot. Hope that makes sense :)

I had a question on the daily limit. Reading the regs. it says "when fishing with bait, all trout equal to or greater than the minimum size are counted as a part of the daily limit whether kept or released". So if you have Power Bait, worms, grubs, etc your limit is 5 regardless of using a spoon or wedding ring, etc.? If only using a lure with nothing else, you can C&R as many as you like? I am unsure on the exact rules on this.

Johhnymatts,

You are correct. The way the regs read, if you are using any kind of bait, to include scented artificial baits, and you catch 5 fish, then that is your limit for the day, whether or not you keep them. If you are using flies or any non-scented lures (Wedding rings, spinners, etc) to include non-scented or non-salted plastics, then you can catch and release as many fish as you want. Make sure you pinch the barbs on your hooks though. Barbs can really mess up the fish..
