I had not fished for Kokanee for 20 years, so before I went out by myself I decided to go out with a guide and find out how the Pros do it( highly recommended). My wife and I hit the water at 4:00 PM( the guide is a teacher at a Stevens School). The weather was cold but not much wind.
Within an hour-cooler-10 to 15 mph- rain and hail-GOOD NEWS we had 20 to 30 hits and landed ten beautiful 10 to 15 inch Kokanee.
What I learned- you don't need down riggers to catch Kokanee. John uses leaded line with two colors out-wedding rings- small 4/0 blade about 4' above the wedding ring. He uses a small treble hook with maggots and/or corn, both worked- Maggots stay on better. The leaded line is so much easier and faster than down riggers. Thanks John we had a great time. See you on the lake when the weather warms up!!
