On a hot, sunny July day two friends and I Hiked the 2.9 miles to janus lake to check out the fish and camped over night. The Lake is very pretty even though the water was a dirty brown color. The lake is very shallow on its southwest side. That is were the camp sites are. The east side of the lake was marshy, muddy and pretty much impassible. The west side of the lake was thick woods with fallen trees sticking out into the lake. This side had some nice drop offs. this is were we fished. The three of us threw are lines in slowly making are way towards the north end of the lake. my buddy's insisted on using cheaterbate (power bate). They both hooked and lost several fish which wrapped them selves around some structure. I myself caught and released only one. It appeared to be a golden trout about 13".The second one I've ever caught. I didn't know this lake had them. It was a Beautiful fish. This lake is more for the fly fisherman as there was an abundance of surface feeding .Camp fires are allowed at this lake which was nice. We saw about 30 people come and go while there so this is a popular destination. limited access to the fish keeps the population high I assume as well as catch and release. All in all it was a good trip. Cracker Jack Keep It Clean
