Hit up Liberty after work with Prohawk for a few hours. Did our good deed for the day by towing in a stranded family on their new-to-them boat.
Onto the fishing...
Water temp was around 54.5F, a nice little breeze of about 5mph and overcast skies. Barely hooked a nice largemouth and got it next to the boat before it came undone. A few minutes later, my buddy pitched a dock and ended up boating a 1-2 lb smallmouth but refused to be seen on film with anything under 3lbs so no pics. It was his first bass for the year though. About 20 minutes later, I hooked up again and lost it after it made a strong run. Went another 30 minutes, hooked up and lost another fish. Ended up losing the lure after either it broke or somehow worked loose because the split ring was still on my line. Switched up to the same pattern only a smaller lure (shallower running depth) and couldn't get a bite.
Learned three important lessons.
1. "Sure-set" hooks are junk. Change them out to a decent treble.
2. You have to be deep enough to be catching weeds on your lure to elicit a strike.
3. Only having one of your "go-to" pattern is a poor approach.
