Started the day trying to fish the pike tournament on CDA, but called it quits after almost getting my bass boat swallowed in some 5 foot swells in the middle of the lake. Decided to go hit Hayden up for the evening. Water was a little choppy there as well, but managed to find a bay that was somewhat calm. Tried out my new home made plug for a while with no success. Switched up to a blue and silver with orange belly Husky Jerk, and 2nd cast bam. Small pike. About 5 minutes later another small pike. Had 2 misses after this. Then moved toward shore and was working a little pocket in the bay between a dock and a sand bar point, and wham, drag started singing. Thought I had a big pike, but then to my surprise a big largemouth. I thought she would go 6, but my scale said 4.1 but had low batteries and died. She was almost 21 inches long with over a 12 inch girth. Not sure on water temp as my transducer got ripped off my boat in the earlier fiasco on CDA lake by a deadhead trying to get back to shore through the monster waves. Should be soon for Hayden. Just need a few days of solid weather.
