Got to Howard Lake for the first time today! I think everyone else was there too! After waiting 10-15 min we finally launched and hit the water. We used power bait or salmon eggs with a marshmallow 2-3ft off the bottom. Hooked into the first one around 10 min on the water, and me and my buddy caught 4 within the first hour or so. Fishing tapered off for another hour or so, then I caught a nice 2-3 lb holdover and finished my limit shortly after that. Mainly trips between me and the buddy, except for the little guy on the bottom.(hooked pretty deep and bleeding, so I kept). The last 5 fish we caught were on garlic powerbait. They wouldn't touch anything else! Some very nice fish, not to bad considering how some people were doing. On the way home by 9! -Tight lines!

lake Howard was launch crazy around noon. 2 guys took 30 minutes to get there smokercraft on the trailer, holding up the whole launch. dude kept putting his trolling motor in forward and ramming himself into the trees, not just once but over and over! it was so crowded there were times you could run from boat to boat. i consider howard a home lake and it was crazy. must be from the high rank from last years opener. fun to watch the drunks land there boats. Oh ya one more thing NO GAS MOTORS on howard! saw a few out there

Country Guy,
Glad you had a nice time. Word to the wise, if I read you comments correctly, it appears that you released the smaller fish that weren't bleeding to get to your limit on trips. When fishing for bait, all fish caught including released count toward your limit.

Spinner, thanks for the heads up, but we didn't release any. I would have tossed the little guy back and stopped at 4, but he wouldn't have made it. I'm glad you are concerned though! We need more fishermen with ethics out there, last year at Roesiger and fishing for Pinks on the Snohomish I saw so many people keeping more than their limits, or trying to snag it was disgusting. I called fish and game on a few guys snagging on the snohomish, but they can't be everywhere!
