I started the day fishing for smallies and got nothing. Stopped fishing for smallies about 10am and cruised around looking for schools of kokanee. Found some fish in my usual spot and fished there for a hour and a half. Only got a few perch so moved down to the log boom at the south end of the lake and started marking a lot of fish around the bottom in 45 feet of water. I anchored up and started fishing the bottom. I got my first kokanee within 15 minutes. I was hooking kokanee and some bows every 15 minutes for 3 hours. I hooked around 10 kokanee that were 15 to 17 inches and landed 5 or 6. I was using a barbless hook so lost some fish. Ended up hooking about 25 trout and kokanee and keeping these 3 fish 2 at 17'' and a 13'' kokanee. Catching kokanee on light tackle is a blast. Water temp was around 56 degrees. All fish were caught from 5 to 10 feet off the bottom. Would have rated this day a 5 but i didnt get any smallies.

Isn't the regulation for trout fishing that when you are using bait when you reach 5 fish(your limit) you are done whether you release them or not ? Those Kokes have soft mouths, prob. ripped lips contribute to fish mortality.

Hey bob, i understand your concern but the fish i kept were with bait. I have been fishing that lake for 25 years and i know what im doing. All fish were hooked in the lip but 2. All fish released were not taken out of the water and not handled. Not all the fish were caught on worms. I use chronomids as bait 90% of the time and all hooks are barbless. U can catch and release kokanee if u know what your doing. And snake, fish the south end of lake in 45 feet of water. The fish run 5 to 10 feet off the bottom. U must keep your chronomid moving up and down very slowly at all times. they bite very soft so u have to hold your rod at all times and set the hook as soon as u feel a bit. If u do that all your fish will be hooked in the top lip. Write back if u get this and i will tell u more. Very few fisherman can catch kokanee still fishing and im a master at it.

Sorry, from the way your post was written it seemed that all you used was bait, no mention of flys.
