Was down south at my friends house hooking up my new Lowrance HDS5 on the bow of my boat and since we got finished by 4pm I decided to hit Goodwin and test it out on the way home.
Weather was a far cry from the 70 degrees and sunny I saw the previous trip, it was breezy raining and a bit colder! Water temps were still 54-56 degrees and after playing with my Lowrance for about an hour, getting the settings the way I like them and what not, I decided to fish for about an hour.... Yes I b-lined for the largemouth I had fought the day before, and yes they were still under the same dock but this time they weren't having anything to do with baits! They just swam shallower, refused a grub, senko, spinnerbait, and a crankbait so I left them to look for smallies. I motored over to the n.e. corner where I had spotted five smallies under one dock the day before, I switched jig heads on my grub to a 3/8oz for better bottom contact and longer casting and tried a twitch twitch pause retrieve instead of the slow rolling presentation from last time. Took two casts before I hooked into and landed the 3.2lber in the pic! Worked the area a bit more with no results. Fished the rocky point with no action. Stopped by the cove just north of the County Park and caught a 14" dink smallie on the way out, no photo as I didn't want to subject my phone to the rain again! Got the one fish jinx off at least! He took the same grub and presentation as the big one.
The Lowrance HDS5 with Lake Insight from Hodges Marine is amazing! Money well spent! Only now I want to sell my Lowrance LMS522igps on the consol and buy another one of these!! It never ends.... and I don't care:)
