Fished Merwin on sunday, hit water about 0830 told by a friend to troll 60 feet behind boat with downriggers set to 10 feet, 10 minutes in double hook up me and my father in law. action like this the whole time out, 3 hours had our limit of 5 a peice. father in law on a lake troll red wedding ring and corn, me with a lake troll and pink splatter spinner by Radical glow and corn. gulp maggots effective, and pro cure carp spit scent. water temp 44 degrees. speed change was key trolled at 1.3 mph in the middle of change up to 2.0 was when we had our biggest hits. hope this helps all the die hard Kokanee fishermen.... tight lines.

Best eating smoked freshwater fish I have ever eaten, light brine in sugar, liquid smoke, and water overnight. Then smoke until medium rare, then finsh on the backyard bbq / grill or in the Little Chief until done, fat will cook out (white pushed outside of the flesh). Land locked Kokanee are and underrated fish here, but are fine on the table!

Kokanee are bar none the best tasting fish that is not a walleye or a perch! Lay out some foil, drip on some olive oil. Put the kokanee carcass on there and rub both sides in the oil, then hit it hard all over with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and rosemary or thyme. Fold up the foil to seal. Put it on a med-hi grill, for 8-10 minutes. Flip it over, leave for another 8 minutes. Do not over cook it...check it at this time. You will love it. .... Excellent report with great details! Those are excellent looking kokanee. Nice job!

last summer we fished Merwin and did well when it was hot with downriggers. I had my brother in laws help fillet and make the brine. Left it in brine for about 3-4 hours, took it out and filled up the big Chief. Went to the Safeway by our house for a few things and found upon returning that family had eaten almost all of the fish...yes, they saved me some and what a great time.
