After a disappointing trip to Riffe Lake (the water was too low to launch and the wind was whipping the lake to a white froth), my boss, his son and I stopped and fished Mayfield on the way home. It was a lot less windy and no problem getting the boat in. But after racing from one end of the lake to the other searching for fish we decided to just try trolling wedding rings tipped with a piece of worm and small spoons. We fished near the Hwy 12 bridge that crosses over the lake for about an hour, never had a hit. And to make matters worse, one of my downriggers conked out on me, ugh! Time to take it in to Ollie Damon's and empty my wallet on repairs! Oh well, glad I found out before I take my family on vacation in a few weeks. Anyhow, if you are planning a trip to the area, unless you have a very small boat (under 14 feet) don't waste your time trying to launch at Riffe Lake, it's way too low. Next time I am definately going to make sure that the lake is up before I head out for the two hour trip from Vancouver, ESPECIALLY if my boss is with me! lol
