Took both of my kids (son(6) and daughter (2)) along with my dad to potholes state park for the weekend. We were told at Mardon that Heart lake and Windmill were the better trout lakes so headed down there. Never fished either one. Drove past Heart and stopped at Windmill. Game warden came by while we were there so we asked him where the best fishing was. He said for kids Windmill was really producing. He suggested we fish the south end of the lake near the culvert. We parked down by the bridge and walked the Canal Lake road in to Windmill. My dad fished the west side of the culvert and I took the kids to the other side. We caught our 20 fish within a couple hours. Used power bait about 2 feet off the bottom. It was all I could do to bait, cast, and remove fish from the line. I couldn't even get a drink. We missed lots of bites but the kids had a blast. My son hooked and reeled in all of his fish by himself and my daughter caught her first fish, with a little help of course. I don't know how long the fishing will be this good but it was great. Stopped at Caliche Lake on the way home Sunday. Caught a couple of trout and a handful of perch before the rain came.
