First Guide trip of the season and happy to say we didn't get skunked, but fishing was tough. I took Firetiger out on Sammamish Sunday. After the beautiful day Saturday, we were greeted at the launch with cold, rain and wind, but the water temp was actually up a few degrees hovering around 48 and we found a couple of spots at 49 degrees as well. Wanted to see if the fish had moved up any from the prior week, so we started out in the 30' range and started gradually moving out deeper as the day progressed. Had a few bites in the 35' range but no hookups. At about 2:00 Steve's rod bows over and I can see he has a solid fish on the line. After a nice fight, we quickly get her in the net, weigh her, snap a pic and get her back in the water. His fish came off an isolated rockpile about the size of my boat, in 42' of water, on a 3/4oz football head with a blue/black smallie beaver used as the trailer (no skirt).
The fish weighed 3lb 8 oz, and was a personal best on Sammamish for Steve. It was also his first time fishing with football head jigs and his first time fishing with beavers as well. Fishing was tough, rain and wind added to the challenge, but credit to Steve for sticking with the plan, having persistence, not giving up! Tight Lines and we'll see you out on the water! - Dave
