Kind of slow out there today but did get a 4# football smallie. Also got 1 decent bow, both fish released. Not a bad day on the water today. Good fishing is just right around the corner.

Hi Jim. Where do you think the best place to plunk for large perch would be on American Lake? Several years ago, we had pretty good luck in the cove just before the entrance to the south portion of the lake but absolutely no big ones in the last two seasons.
We killed them on small jigs and bits of worm or perch eyes but they seem to have migrated to other parts of the lake. I'd love to catch a haul of crappie but haven't ever pulled one out of the lake, any suggestions for locating those elusive targets? Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. By the way, we C&R trout and large bass but keep all good-sized perch both for population control and their status as best-tasting fish to come out of the Lake (personal preference).

Thanks, Jeretired

I have caught perch many of times when fishing for trout. I anchor in 45 feet of water and get them on a half of worm on the bottom. I fish in the southwest corner of the lake called the culvert. I dont start catching them till summer time so right now im not sure where they are. I have fished the culvert for 25 years now and the perch fishing is not what it used to be. Fish a little shallower in the culvert, and be ready cause u might hook a giant trout while fishin for perch. Good luck
