This is kind of excting seeing as this is my first post. I bought some downriggers and a 12' aluminus fishing boat for a few hundred bucks off craigslist and married my two pruchases together and finally got on the water with a buddy and my 3 year old kid to test it out. I would like to give a shout out to Kyle, he gave me some tips that resulted in my first lake sammamish cutthroat trout, 16", not huge, but you should have seen the smiles on our faces. I thought the downriggers would be the producer, but the rig that got bit was a banana weight tied to 20 lb braid with 24" of braid to the 00 dodger and a 12lb mono leader to lure. Tried herring and did not get a hit. I will withold the specific lure, since Kyle told me what to use. Had one other strike on the same setup, seemed like we got bit around 25 ft.

Nice job out there! I was debating on which lake to fish on Sunday and ultimately chose Washington due to the recent rain we had. I figured Lake Samammish would be a bit off color due to the run-off from Issaquah Creek. What kind of visibility did you have where you were fishing? Also, just in case you may not have been given the scoop, when using the downriggers you will want to let out at least 100' of line before you put it in the clip.

G-Man, I did let out about 100' off the downrigger, which I wouldn't have known to do without reading an article about cutthroats online, but I still didn't get bit on them. The water was definitely stained around Issaquah creek, but I caught that cutt a good 3/4 mile from the mouth of the creek. If you have any other downrigger tips, let me know, cause I am brand new to using them.

Snake7676, I put in at the park, we just carried my little rowboat to the water, but there were a lot of boats out, so I would assume that the launch was easy enough/docks not submerged.
