My son, friends Brad and Tom and I joined the mass of humanity out for the one day sockeye season. We got to the Gene Coulon launch at 3am and waited about 1 1/2 hours to get the boat launched. Once on the water we headed to the south end of Mercer Island and dropped three lines off DR. We spaced the depths at 10 ft increments and used standard sockeye gear on each line. We mixed up the hook colors on purpose to find the "hot" colors. Well, all the colors were hot. We even tied up some combo colors like a tandem red hook blue hook rig. They all worked. The bites and fish came steady until 9am when things slowed down. We did get our last fish at 10:45, limits for the boat. The fish seem smaller this year than two years ago. As usual, it seemed like everyone did pretty good. A nice day on the water. We fished up the west side of Mercer Island, keeping in the middle, away from the tight packets of boats. Lots of fish in the middle!
