Well, after catching up on an extensive "honey-do" list (when you fish as much as I do in the early spring, summer, AND hunt deer, bear, and elk in the fall) the old 'honey-do' list has lots of time to grow!! LOL Add to that a bout of swine flu, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a busier than normal work schedule and I haven't actually 'fished' much since October 1st!! This is NOT good and I was starting to twitch and have night sweats!! LOL
So I headed to Blackman's today to meet a work buddy and try for some of the trout he has been catching fairly consistently from the docks...including a 5lb tank just yesterday! WOW! It was about 8:15am when I arrived and he had already been there an hour, with one one the stringer and three misses! While I stood there chatting with him (gear still in the back of my truck btw) the guy fishing next to him hooked and landed 2! Then it was my buddies turn and he pulled one in that was a solid 3lber! Needless to say, I headed back to the truck and retrieved my gear!:)
I decided just to try casting spinners for a bit, and since everyone on this dock was bait fishing, I decided to fish my way over the the other dock which was vacant. I started throwing a silver Kastmaster from shore, no hits, switched to gold, no hits, switched to a green and chrome and had one boil on it right by the shore..... as I eased out onto the dock, a big one swam out from under it slowly and headed away from me parallel to the shore, I began casting in the direction he was heading and had several taps. Fishing a lure very shallow and very slow required me to keep my rod tip at high noon (no jokes please;) and turn the reel handle very slowly, but it worked, I caught a nice 12"er after about 6 casts and missed about six more after that!!
I decided to leave soon after as I needed to get my boat out to Lake Shoecraft and work out some electronics issues....but it was good to be back out, especially to have a little fish action! I sure am looking forward to this year and sharing more reports with everyone! Also, I hope to post some videos this year as well and add to the awesome library that's on here already!! Those videos sure helped me through the flu boredom!!
Well, tight lines, good fishing and Happy New Year to all!! See you on the water!
