This was definately a good decision to head out to Rowland Lake today. I had the whole lake to myself! I guess everybody went Christmas shopping, because the entire five hours that I was there I didn't see even one other fisherman. Anyhow, the fishing wasn't red hot, but I was able to hook and land 1/33 of the fish planted earlier this week (66 total). The bigger of the two topped the scale at just over 10 pounds, the smaller one very close behind, around 9.5 pounds. There were four fish carcasses lying on the ground right next to the boat launch. Pretty sad, looked like someone just caught 'em and let 'em rot there. Other than the two I caught I had no other hits. The water temp was 39-40 degrees, I think the other fish might have been too lethargic from the cold, but there were only about 3 that I saw make a surface commotion while I was there.

If you're planning to go there I strongly recommend that you take a small boat, the shore access is good but the fishing is much more productive trolling. Tight lines everyone!

Hey flyfisherguy. Great catch. I see you use a porta boat. Is that a good boat to fish out of or do you think a pontoon boat is better.

Hiya Scraper, yeah I like the porta boat because I can fold it up for long trips and put it on top of my 4Runner. Little easier than hauling it on a trailer. But for close to home trips I keep it on my small trailer to save the setup time. I used to have a pontoon boat, but I like the porta boat better for the kind of fishing I do, that is, in small lakes. I can carry alot more stuff in it!

Hey Loui! Good to hear from you! Sure wish I could make it out your way right now and do some of that Rufus fishing with you! Well maybe next summer, we will have to do dinner again with you and Cindy if Dacia and I can make it. I'll get back to you as that time gets nearer. Keep those great pics and posts of you guys coming! :-)
