Fished Curlew for 3 days starting on the 8th. Started out in Roberta lake at the south end, moved to the north end past the trestle and worked shoreline everywhere in between. Caught plenty of large mouth but all dinks not worthy of pictures. Unlike my last 3 trips to Curlew I didn't manage a muskie this time. We did have one about a 3' tiger run right under the boat but couldn't entice it into a bite. In all the years I have fished this lake I have never found where the big ones are hiding. We used top water minnows with some success, Zara Spooks were totally ineffective, somehow "walking the dog" didn't arouse much interest. Found no luck with spinner baits which I found very odd. We got the best results using 5" Yamamoto Senkos in darker colors or the bass color. Over 35 years of fishing this lake I have seen the slow emergence of a floating mat of weeds that looks much more like moss than anything else, I don't know what it is but it is taking over large areas of shoreline and it's killing the LMB fishery here. It's sad as this is one of my favorite lakes and favorite areas of the state.
