I hit the lake about 3pm. Lots of pleasure boaters out. I boated a small bass and a rockbass skipping senkos under docks. Met up with Biskitsngrav at about 430. Within the first 15 minutes he gets hooked up with a nice 3 pounder. I scramble in the boat to get the net and break the tip of one of his lamiglas rods. Eventually boated the fish but Mr. loose grip Jay dropped the fish in the lake before we got a weight on it. Then it was just really hot and slow for awhile, I got a rockbass on a jignpig.

Once the majority of the skiers left and the sun began to set I promised Jay the topwater bite would turn on, and he still hasn't caught bass on a topwater. I started throwing my zara I get a nice blowup right off the bat. Next cast I boated the little bass just under 2 lbs. I realized that little fish pulled drag too easy so I tighten up the drag a little. About two or three casts away I get a huge blowup and hookup. Fish ran under the boat and was fightin for his life and snap, game over.

Jay was convinved with spookbait so I toss him one. He ties it on and bam he boats a nice two pounder. After that it was just pitch dark and time to go home. I had some pretty bad luck yesterday....breaking his rod and losing a good fish over 5 pounds.

Jay you were a pleasure to invite for a trip and can't wait for the next trip. Enjoy my XMLTi until I replace that lamiglas.

It was a great time out there Derek .. thanks again for the invite. You can tell by the smile on my face that I am not to concerned about the broken rod. And that smile is nothing compared to the one I had after catching one on the spook. I fell asleep thinking of throwing the spook ... woke up thinking of throwing the spook. I have already picked up another spook to add to the one that you had given me. Isn't it time to be back on the water? ... LOL. That was a monster of a fish Derek had ... all I saw was the huge blowup then his line zip toward the boat. It was almost in slow motion but knows it all happened so fast. Catching two nice fish and one that was my first ever topwater was another of the many fishing trips this year that get two thumbs up and priceless memories. Thanks Derek and look forward in getting out there again soon!
