I have been in search for some good Crappie fishing on the west side with little to no luck, finally heading to Spokane area and hitting several lakes I found them in Eloika. Note: For those headed to Eloika, the state boat ramp is torn out and they are putting in a new one and is supposed to be completed the end of July 09. I did a little panick when I drove all that way to find the ramp out and talked to a local who steered me to Jerry's Landing Resort just a mile to the North on Lake Shore Rd. the launch fee is a very reasonable $3.00 and Jerry put me onto what works and where. I caught two by mid morning and then searched the entire lake looking for a non weedy spot as the lake is almost entirely in cabbage now. So as the heat of the day wore on the wind started at about a 5mph blow for several hours which was just right for drifting and jigging, I began to get some soft action so began to try all the stuff I had and ended up with Kailins Crappie Grubs as the best thing. Then about 5pm the wind got real stiff and the lake just started churning, if not for the weeds it would have been white capping, but the good news is that just turned the bite on like they were pihrannas. I believe this caused the minnows hiding in the cabbage to get tossed about and it was hard to see my jigging and I did get lots of hangups but for the most part I was nearly on top of the water when I could see just about every Green Gold lightning bolt strike my jig. In about an hour of working with the wind and running up and drifitng back I had my 10 legal fish limit most of them about 10" with one a shade over 11". A very memorable day and good eating ahead. Jerry's Landing is a quaint resort that has a couple cabins and accomodates RV's and tenting, beach and dock, boat rentals, and an unimproved ramp that will handle most any small to medium lake boat and a nice general store. I will be back for sure and if your thinking of heading there I highly recommend you check out the resort, you can contact them at jerryslanding@earthlink.net, nice folks!
