Thought I'd head down to the canal between ballard and freemont tonight for a little smallmouth action. It was nice and warm, started out throwin a lime green spinner and had a few hits. Then I moved to a red and orangeish XRAP and had no luck but I got a tail from a decent sized smallie. Next I tried a blackfootball head off the bottom and had no luck. So i went back to the green spinner this time i used a smaller version but same color and caught about two of what a friend of mine (who is a pro bass firsherman) said to be sunfish. However I have no idea because I have never seen one before. All in all a good night on the canal and I will be back.

I'd call that one a "Punkinseed". Plain old Bluegill don't have the side stripes.
