My 72 yr old dad and I hiked the greg ball route 5.6 miles to lake in 2.5 hours starting at 6:am arriving 8:30 am fished for 3.5 hours, I might add right after entering the forest at the foot bridge a small tributary of the Wallace river had about 9 cuthroat to 10 inches down to 6 aggressively feeding, fun to watch. Upon arrival to Wallace looking down at the river standing on the foot bridge my father and I witnessed several large cutts feeding in lies. edging each other out with their size influence competing.
Turning around to the majesty of Wallace we also witnessed many trout feeding all throughout the log jam, ring and bubbles and, some serious dorsal action I believe there are many fish over 20" plus in this lake because of its depth on the west shore 100' but by all of the schools of 6" cutts literally hiding all around the log jam. All fish around 12" to 14" beautiful color and firm bodies great fighters.
Will return with waders and machete to better access the holes on the East shore, and be sure to remember my skeeter repellent next time!
