Fathers day 2009 (my 1st as a dad). Seen some good reports coming from Lost and had been itchin to get out and give it a try. Talked The Quadfather into coming along too. Met up at my place at 5am - loaded up the car and hit the road. Stopped at Kens truckstop for some biscuits and gravy (and since we are both dads we each got a free slice of peanutbutter pie to go - score!).
Got to the lake about 7am, cold steady wind blowing from the west/southwest. Nothing was said, but I think we were both wondering if we brought enough layers. We put it at the boat launch and kicked our way over to the south side, then hugged that edge and worked our way west which kept us out of the wind (most of the time). No action for about an hour, we both ended up trying worms (last resort). I got the 1st hit off a worm 3' under a bobber. 15.5" trip. Got one more hit soon after on the same but it came undone. Then I switched to a little orange rooster tail. I found a spot where the rocks made a little inlet that shielded me from the wind, started casting from one end and running the lure about 20' out along bank. 4 fish on in 6 casts. Radioed Quad to let him know what was working and continued up the shoreline getting constant hits and hookups all the way up to the west end. Quad started getting hits right before lunch, and had numerous hookups as well. We stopped for lunch and to stretch our legs, then continued on around the whole lake that way. Once off of the south & west sides of the lake the action really died down and didn't get anything at all on the north side.
This was the 1st day since my daughter was born that I was able to get out - and not have to worry about time and schedules. It was much needed and a great trip. The fishing gods where on our side today! We ended up taking 3 home (Quad 1, me 2 - and yes the second one was just 14", not over).
