Met up with Staffola at clear lake boat launch at 6:45 and on the water by 7am . Staffola started catching smallies right away and it seemed the bite was on. 3 hours later I got my first fish of the day and it was a dinky smallmouth. Staffola had boated around 10 fish by now with his smoke and gold grubs ( smb's , lmb's and one rb trout) . None of my usual tactics where working for me. Spotted a few nice sized bass near a dock with some lillies. They showed some interest in my jigger craw rigged t style , but no strikes. Then I tied on rage tail frog and 3rd cast a 2# 2oz LMB took it off the top. Then we went past the boat launch and fished the few small pad fields near the reeds and docks. Thats when I picked up this nice little 4# 2oz LMB. He blew up on it between pads and put up a nice fight. Top water fishing and seeing them blow up on a lure has got to be by far my most favorite way to catch them. As allways all fish where C&R.
Tight lines all , BMC out!
