Sometimes the fish win, and that was definitely the case on my guide trip Saturday. Launched at Mercer island about the exact time the boys from the Capital city club were getting ready to blast off for their club tourney, looked like a good turnout for them. I'm sure someone figured em out, but we didn't. Started out throwing a sammy and a popper, neither produced any action. Switched up and started throwing a jerkbait and a crankbait in about 10 feet of water, the crankbait produced one 2 lb smallie. Ran up past the 520 bridge and fished a few points, again nothing. Caught a 5 lb squawfish on the same crankbait, and then dropshotted docks for the last hour and half with a few bites but no hookups. All in all a tough day of smallmouth fishing. I've fished enough tournaments to know that someone always figures 'em out, so I'm really interested to see what the weights were like for tourney guys. See you on the water! -

Drop shotting the docks and skipping 4" senkos way back under them produced our day1 12lb6oz and day 2 11lb14oz bags...and knowing how to fish 1 point with a dropshot also produced our 3.4 day 1 bigfish and skipping produced our 3.6 big fish...we probably managed at least 35fish to the boat both days..tightlines

Hard to say Dez, but if a client is wanting to learn new techniques, tactics and areas of the lake, then the teaching and learning aspect is much more important than the catching part. I had a good run with clients up to last week, where we managed to do both teaching and catching, but honestly, it's really tough to find a balance between the two, and like last weekend, it doesn't always work out. The client was excited to find some new types of areas to look for, and to gain some confidence throwing some baits and learning some techniques that he wouldn't normally use, and for sure, no one hires me to watch "me" catch fish. :) My hats definitely off to Sparky and Derek, for puttin' it to the smallies that weekend, and gettin' the job done both days, especially knowing that the pre-fishing for that tourney was tough going! See ya on the water! -Dave
