Sorry for the delay in getting this report out. I had a guide trip with Firetiger from the site on May 30th on Lake Sammamish. I knew there would be fish on beds, but I didn't want to start out fishing for them, so Steve and I worked mostly spinnerbaits and crankbaits trying for some larger post spawn fish. After about 2 hours of that, I saw a nice sized fish on a bed, and since Steve had never fished beds before, I gave him some pointers, and after about 10 minutes we finally boated his first ever smallie off a bed! The fish was a bit stubborn at first, but one trick that has worked well for me in the past is to take a tube bait and dip the bottom in chartreuse dye. This makes it really visible on a bed, and the smallies just can't handle it! Unfortunately, the wind kicked up making bed fishing almost impossible, and so we reverted back to spinnerbaiting the inside weedlines, which produced nothing. We spent the last hour of the day dropshotting docks, which didn't pan out for us either. In all we got one small fish on a jerkbait and that bed fish and that was it. In retrospect, we probably should have just resorted to dropshotting docks, and we probably would have done ok, but that's not the most exciting fishing in the world, and I was hoping we could find some aggressive fish. Steve's a great guy, and I had fun out there, just wish I could have got him a few more fish for the day! Tight lines! -
