A long drive to get there from Skagit Valley, but well worth the effort. I started fishing at 5am as the trout were surfacing. I was using a float with a worm on a #8 size hook about 2 feet below the surface. The fish would hit after a fresh cast. I cast out and waited about 20 seconds, if I didn't get a strike, then I reeled in and cast again.
If I saw a fish surface within casting range from shore, I reeled in quickly and cast out to where the fish surfaced. This technique seemed to work best. The fish would hit my worm almost immediately with a well placed cast.
I caught 4 brook trout. 3 of them were 12" and 1 that was 10". I had many other bites, but failed to set the hook. All within an hour of fishing.
My experience was excellent at this lake and I was fishing from shore. I would love to bring my canoe next time.
