It was our first 5 star day of the year. Don't you just love spring bass fishing!

All in all the three of us probably landed close to 35 or 40 bass ranging from under a pound to the 5-10 monster that Brian hooked up with. Lots of bass in the 2 pound plus range once we established the good spawing locations on the lake. We spent the morning on the far end across the land bridge, the prop was throwing lots of mud on the way over. We even lost water pressure for a moment, be careful.

Turns out, that side had all the dinks for us. Fishing was fast but the bigger fish didn't turn on until we were in the nice gravel flats that had the bedding bass. The winds calmed down around 11:00 and the fishing was excellent. Let's see what worked: swim jigs, spinnerbaits, grubs, poppers, and of course the bait of the day was the SENKO. We even pinned a couple nice rainbows on the senkos.

Keep in mind, this is a selective gear lake. Single barbless hooks only. That works just fine with plastics! You can use a motor however and I apologize to the BLM and the other boaters that day, there is a 10mph speed limit clearly marked at the launch (I didn't see that...)

Last little details for those still paying attention. Water temps were below 70 degrees. The water was very clear, bottom visibility to 8-10 feet. There were about 7-8 other boats max on the water joining us but there were definitly plenty of bass to go around, have fun!

Thanks for driving the boat...that was a blast. I went out to Deer Lake the next day, caught a bunch more, but no big ones.

Nice looking largemouths, there are some big one's in there! But, be careful next time you guys are out there, you may want to watch out for the WDFG, we were out there a couple years ago in our float tubes catching bass using plastic's and was approached by the WDFG and told us that plastics were considered (bait) not lures... Even though I argued the point of interpretation about what is considered bait (a live worm as opposed to an artificial one) he was still firm on his point, so be careful out there!

Thanks for the tips ilv2fish. I bet their argument centers around the 'unscented' rule. Most plastics have some salt at a minimum (Senkos), and many have more than that, say Powerbait. Hopefully I'll never have to have that argument although now that I know how good the bassing is there, I should stick to the regs and only use my fly rod! That's so hard to do...

The bait issue, scent or flavor added, is a real problem for bass fishing on selective rules lakes. I made up some of my own plastics some years ago, without scent, but how do I prove it? Better leave the plastics in the box I suppose. Too bad, but there are a lot of other lures that will work as well. PS, great report, and I see the water cooled down a little since Saturday.
