Decided to try Shady for the first tme. Fished with a friend from 05:30 to 10:30. Weather was overcast with a few sprinkles. Water was 73 degrees. Not much wind. I was the second boat in the water. It started out real quiet, but soon there were many boats in the water, an a ton of residents fishing from their docks.

Started out trolling wedding rings and pop gear, got some strikes but no hookups. Would have used worms, but my Fred Meyer was all out last night. Decided to anchor and power egg off the bottom, which worked pretty well for me for a while. Got many strikes and the one 13 incher in the boat. Then it died down. We moved maybe 50 yards up the shoreline and I get another, smaller fish in the boat real fast. Eventually we try trolling again, and was glad my friend boated a fish caught on a super duper behind pop gear. We missed many strikes, some were nibbling very gently. And I snapped of my whole trolling set up on a hook set at one point.

Eventually it becomes clear why so many of the residents were fishing... we see a big gathering form in a private yard on the shore, then an MC addresses the crowd announcing winners in an annual derby. There we many yards with fires going by the shore and some big groups fishing. Quite festive! Much smoke on the water (cue song).

The only downer of this whole fishing episode was when we anchored and had some success, then several other boats came up and anchored very near us blocking our casting spots, since we were close to shore. Classic inconsideration. But all in all, had a good time.
