Wanted to try a camping fishing trip up at Shannon. We had 2 12' aluminum boats out. We got on the water around 10 am and fished until dark. We only caught 1 8-9"" rainbow, very disappointing. We tried, spoons, spinners, floating worms, naturals, and even chummed up some spots with corn. Tried trolling with everything in the box. Nothing. There were PLENTY of fish on all 3 finders, they were just not interested. The highest water temp we clocked was 52 with the average about 50. Maybe when the water warms up it will be a little better. The views were amazing though, it was about 70 with no clouds in sight, the mountains were very clear.

I've pulled some real pretty kokanee from shannon a few years ago, probably in june or july. We'd pick periwinkles out of a creek and fish them deep along the boomdock. Or we'd tie 2 leaders off a sinking fly line with a corn kernel and/or a single egg ( we aren't purists) and fish them in a chum cloud. Nice to hear a report from that beautiful spot.

I agree that the water temp there sounds a bit cold. Water temp at Lake McMurray this morning was 66.6 degrees F and the bite was slow. Last weekend it was 64 degrees and I limited all three times out. So I think the cold water at Shannon may play a part in the trout’s disinterest in feeding. I have caught many trout from Lake Everett which is the small lake before you get to Shannon. My success at Lake Everett has always been with a green rooster tail spinner, just in case you are in that area again. Thanks for your report.
