Another great trip to Lake McMurray (my third in the last five days). This morning I was on the water at around 7:30 and headed north past the tree stump where I trolled a 3/0 Les Davis chrome dodger and wedding ring tipped with worm and I again limited in just under an hour and a half. I also lost two at the boat and missed maybe 6 or so strikes. One of the 5 was 13.5 inches the other 4 were right at 12”. All very healthy w/pink meat and no parasites were present. Water temp was 64 degrees F and there was some wind which messes with trolling but it was tolerable since the fish were biting. Until this Memorial Day weekend, I had never before fished this lake. I have always thought it was a fairly large lake when I have driven by it (I like fishing smaller lakes, a little easier to find the fish) so I have always passed. That was a mistake! Lake McMurray receives a very generous fish plant every year (according to the WDFW weekly fish plant report) and the plants (at least this year) were obviously 12 or so inches. These fish all fought hard and on approaching the boat they jumped and shook their heads diving in an attempt to spit the hook and be on their way. It was a pleasure this extended holiday weekend to fish this lake three times and do so well. The fish were also very tasty which was a bonus. This morning there were only a handful of boats on the water compared to the weekend when the parking lot was all but full. Anyway, the fish here are biting and I would recommend fishing this lake before the water warms much more.
