Wow! Great bite this morning on Lake McMurray. This is the first time I have fished this lake and I was impressed. I started out trolling a wedding ring tipped with worm behind a small chrome dodger. I had 3 nice fish in the boat in about 20 minutes. They were jumping clear out of the water frequently and were concentrated north of the stump that sticks out of the water, north of the launch. After harvesting the first three fish, I switched to a floating sink tip fly line and a olive woolly bugger and they wouldn’t leave it alone. I caught 4 nice fish very quickly, all of which fought well and were released. I also missed several strikes on the fly before the bite slowed down around 8:30 am. I started fishing at 7:00. When the bite slowed, I changed back to the dodger and wedding ring and quickly caught two more (lip hooked) fish which I released unharmed before heading in at 9:00. So, 5 on a dodger & wedding ring tipped with worm, and 4 on an olive woolly bugger, and numerous strikes that I missed. 3 of the 9 harvested for the BBQ, the rest released. All were right at 12 inches. Great trip, and my first successful outing since the opener. Thankfully I am off until next Wednesday so I hope to return for a repeat trip at least once more before going back to work.
