Tuesday afternoon, sunshine and no kids! We decided to pack a picnic dinner, a few Tecate and head for Heart Lake. We had in our arsenal two sticks rigged for fishing Power Bait and two set up for casting spinners or spoons. Thinking that we were going to eat dinner, the first rigs in the water were the Power Bait set-ups. We rigged one with about a 20” leader and the other with about a 40” leader. Although we had success with any color of Power Bait used the chartreuse/yellow/orange PB was the most consistent in producing bites. Our first bite was almost immediate, here is where I should emphasize “bite”. We had many bites but only one fish, a nice 13” trout with pink meat. After a couple hours of fishing, a stop-n-go dinner, eagle watching and adult talk the final score was who knows how many, but numerous bites and 1 fish. It was a beautiful, relaxing evening.

When we pulled into the public access parking lot at Heart Lake there were 10 or 12 other rigs lined up along the shore and 2 or 3 boats on the lake. A quick creel count of maybe 15 fisher-people resulted 3 or 4 fish. On the way home we checked the public launches at both Lake Erie and Campbell Lake. There were a couple people at each lake and there were 3 or 4 fish caught at each. The quality of the fish at Campbell Lake was impressive, fat 12-16” fish.
