Went to Horeshoe first thing this morning and fished for an hour and a half and not a hit. Drove to Kress and it is really dirty. Visiblity is about a foot, the water is brown and milky color, full of silt from the January flood.

Caught about 15 small trout on Rooster Tails and a small black and olive jig. I noticed a lot of commotion going on in front of me and saw two steelhead circling and nipping at eachother. The two were thrashing and splashing on top, so I motored to them. I cast my tiny jig towards them and hooked one. After at least a twenty minute fight, I was able to tail this steely. I had an ultra light with 4 pound test and a tiny jig that hooked it in the lower jaw. Pretty beat up, nice colored though. Snapped a couple of pictures and let it go.

There were at least ten osprey's working the lake today, the fish won't last long with them crashing the water every few minutes.

Dreamer,

The are recycled from the Kalama River. They used to recycle them from the hatchery into the lower section on the Kalama, then they would journey back to the hatchery. Now the WDFW truck the steelhead from the hatchery and put them in local lakes. They just swim around and die when the water warms up.

Nice fish but you should of run him over to the kalama and let him go there to come back next year bigger ( I dont know if thats legal though) I have no idea why they put the steelhead in lakes it seems like a waste too me they should just put them back in the river. but man good job landing that guy on four pound test!!!!!

crankbait42, that is not legal. They don't want the hatchery fish breeding with the wild fish. Thanks for the report and nice catch!
