I was on the water at 7:15 am. The lake was covered in fog and there were just a few folk’s present fishing and getting ready to fish. It was 32 degrees outside according to my vehicles outside temp gauge and water temp was 44.9 degrees F to start. The smell of fish was in the air. Kind of like when you are in the sound during pink salmon season and the pinks are in thick. I started off trolling with a frog/pearl Dick Nite spoon and caught 3 small plants in about 15 minutes. I changed to a 50/50 Dick Nite and had only 1 bump. So I decided to give my fly rod a try and that was the ticket. I actually caught 14 trout on a green Woolley Bugger fly, hand tied by my dad who is 76 years young and has been tying flies since he was a boy. My dad is kind enough to provide me with most of my flies including the “not sold in stores” Jameson shrimp. Gotta love it! Two of the trout were nice size at 13 and just under 15 inches respectively. They both fought well and it was a blast catching all of these fish on a fly. The rod I use is a Fenwick which I have had since 1970. I was using a sinking line and was trolling very slow in 16 or so feet of water in front of the launch. There were lots of fish marked on my Eagle fish finder. All but the two trout I kept were released unharmed. I ended the trip at 10:00 am and by then the shoreline was packed with vehicles. The water temp at 10:00 am was 46.6 degrees F. Great trip.

Hey KTK,

The trout I catch in my area are nothing compaired to the monster cuts you catch but they keep me sane. Good to hear from you bro. Hope you are well.
