After several weeks of futile crappie fishing in the I-82 pond's area in Yakima county, I finally got into the crappie! I even road my moutain bike out to # 7 pond in the morning, but with no hits with only a single carp breaking the surface, I left disappointed. Later, I managed to catch 5 RBT planters at Buena pond on my firecracker grub. The action was slow at Buena, so I headed up to the # 1 and 2, I-82 ponds. I met a friendly fellow named Roger and his bro in law Chance getting ready to fish for crappie. Chance located them first, and from about 3 to 6 p.m. The three of us caught nearly 100 crappie! They seemed to be depth sensitive, about 2 feet, but once the float depth was set, it was almost non stop action! My best color was a discontinued Jerry's lure 1 1/2 inch skirt jig in olive/ smoke. I released 4 short fish for every keeper. Most of the fish were around 7 to 8" with my biggest Crappie being just over 10." I caught some bluegill and pregnant perch too. (let those go). Took home close to 20 of the bigger fish to fillet. Smoke salt and pepper with silver flake worked almost as good as the olive skirt. I didn't tip my jig, but I used Berkely Crappie scent on the skirts. I plan to explore the other ponds this week for more Crappie action. Good luck, The Jigmiester.
