My trolling motor conked out, so I dropped by The I-82 ponds area on my way to Yakima to pick up another motor. When I arrived at the Buena pond around 9 a.m there were only a couple of cars parked and a few anglers spread out and trying their luck, The morning was absolutely beautiful, but as far as I could tell , no one was really catching much. A quick check of the water temp with my portable thermometer revealed a slightly warmer 52.8 degrees. Good Crappie prospects for me! I decided to pitch a 3" firecracker colored grub on a 1/32 oz. jighead and it wasn't long before i was surprised by a 10" planter rainbow. The fish seemed to like that grub, because I had 10 hookups and landed 7 fish, all trout, mostly recent plants. The action died off at around 10 a.m. All in all the fishing seemed pretty slow for the bait fishers. I only saw 2 other fish caught. I released all of mine to fight another day. Hope to try again for crappie later in the week, The Jigmiester.
