Got to the lake around 10:00AM. fished until 1:20PM. It was raining, it was cold, and we got skunked. I was using a baby bass colored lipless rapala crankbait and had one monstrous fish, (5-6 lber), playing with it for a while. That's the only bass we saw all day. I tried drop shotting, jigs, soft craws, and lipless cranks and completely got skunked. People trolling caught big browns, nothing under 20 inches. Man... We should have trolled...

was that big one along the north shoreline ? Thats where I had a fatty swipe at my lipless not 6 feet off my bow friday. they might not be that active this time of year but man are they chunky fat ! I cant wait for people to put thier docks back in and give them more structure .

I never hooked the fish. The bass followed the bait up to the boat, and stared at it for a while. It only stayed for about 5 seconds until it bolted off to about 15-20' of water. I saw it on the west shore on a point where there are no docks. Just a steep hill, rocks, and a few tree's in a water. That's where we spent most of our time.

Too bad he did not take, i am excited for the bass season to start up. Can not wait for Eloika and Downs. Do you know what the ppl were trolling with out there for the browns or where abouts? I have never fished liberty but i am going to try it out this comming weekend for some browns. I have had 3 nice days out at Rock for browns and now i would like to try Liberty. Anyhow, stay safe out there and keep on posting(with some pictures, everyone loves pictures).

People were trolling with rapala's and rooster tails. What i would do is set a downrigger on 20 feet and troll around the middle of the lake...

Hey thanks for the info. I have never used a downrigger before. Maybe it is because i only have a 12' aluminum. So i am thinking i am going to have to go with the rapallas for now. Who knows, maybe even hook into a bucket mouth trolling, i have done it before. Did you happen to see what pattern they were using? I was going to start off with a sinking brown trout. Anyhow, stay safe out there. Later.

you can buy a small downrigger for a 12 foot boat. that's all we have! ummm... I did not get to see the patterns thery were using. I would say for rooster tail chartruese or red. for rapala, silver, gold, basically any color will work. We have a canon mini downrigger. They are about 50 bucks at cabelas and they work pretty good! have fun out there!

bazzdude go with the broken back rapalas, they have a much better wobble than the straigt ones and you can troll them SLOWER if you get my drift. we will be out there again sunday in a 17' Invader (its a whaler wanna be ) stop by and we will help you IF you need it ..D

Oic, you are talking about the jointed ones. I did not know that they made divers or sinking ones? I guess you could always put some sinkers on them. Well hey i really appreciate the info. I am going to try and make there on sat. before the zags game. I think i have a few jointed ones in the trout color. I might pick up some more and put some weight about 2 feet ahead of the lure. I will go slow like you said. Well i gotta check the weather first i hate the wind, rain is better then wind. Anyhow, stay safe out there.
