I'm primarily a large mouth fisherman new to Seattle via Austin Texas. Keep in mind I have no form of water transportation. I tried the dock off Magnason Park and a special honey hole that has easy land access to deep water. No sign of any bass or bait fish at any depth from 9-10:30am. Went to a spot I had luck w/ in the summer by Laurel Hurst. The water was too shallow. So I went to the Islands right off the museum across from the UW stadium. I fished all of the deepest points and bridges I could from 11:30-3pm. I covered a lot of water, tried numerous baits, speeds, depths all to no avail. A friendly guy once told me there are tons of bass around that area. Maybe I need a boat ha,ha. I did however get to see a tone of Eagles out. The wild life here when fishing is wonderful in comparison to Texas where all you see is water snakes, big blue gill and monster black bass. If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it. Small mouth seem a bit harder to find that what I'm used to.

Welcome to the NW, man! There are plenty of good bass lakes in the Puget Sound region to explore. Not the size of fish you get in Texas, of course, but decent size largies and big smallies in good numbers. There are some really knowledgeable NW bassers on this site more than willing to help you out.

Yea, you will have a tough time catching bucket mouths in Lk. WA, I have fished this lake for some years now and have only come away with a handful of bucket mouths. You can catch perch, small mouth, crappie, and blue gill at a high rate in lk wa from my experience. Just find some rocky pts or sand flats for the small mouth, perch and blue gill go to weed lines and docks.

The little info here is all based on spring/summer time fishing when the weather heats up. The winter fishing would be tough I imagine from shore. Need a boat to have some success during the winter. Wait till spring time tho

It's going to be tough catching any smallies from shore in the late winter. Give it a little over a month and fish should be cruising the shallows. Magnasun is a good spot to try for smallies, and the arboretum is the best place on the lake to shore fish largies.

Largies will be available in prespawn and spawn. Besides that, they're tough to catch.

There are plenty of places you can bank fish for winter smallies from shore. Best spot would be magnusan park, which has lots of rock/ deep water close to shore. Also there is a park on the southeast side of mercer island that has both. Gene Coulan also has both....
