Spent two hours on Pierre yesterday. Sun was shining high in the sky. There's about 14-16" of ice. I fished several spots out from the state boat launch. There is a plowed parking area at the State park access road and a short walk to the lake. I fished 20-24 ft of water with shrimp as bait (store bought raw), just off the bottom of the lake (12-16"). I had three good strikes and managed to get one very nice colored up 16" Cutthroat (and released it). It appears there has been lots of ice fisherman/ladies out on Pierre. There were at least four groups of holes around the north end of the lake. Each group of holes had 8-12 holes. I wonder if the closure of Williams (due to killing all the fish in the fall 2008) is responsible for the extra pressure at Pierre? All in all it was a great day, I even had a chance to visit with a couple of locals who wondered down to see how fishin was. TTFN
