We made it to Roses Lake just outside of Manson, WA this morning. Air temp was around 28 degrees with a slight wind which made it feel a lot colder. Very Low clouds and fog all day long. Ice close to shore was about 8 inches thick. My fishing buddy who is much smaller than me headed out towards the middle of the lake to check the ice thickness. He started to drill a hole and was through the ice in five or six turns of the auger. I'm sure glad he lives in Chelan. He didn't have to ride in the back of the truck for very long before we got back to his house so he could change his shorts. He kept saying something about the ice being only two or three inches thick. We fished using various colors of Power Bait for about two hours and caught two small Rainbows. Mine was about twelve inches and fishing buddies was about thirteen. He won the three dollar bet for the day. If you head to Roses Lake just stay close to the shore and you'll be fine. The ice out to about 50 or 60 feet from shore is about eight inches thick and held my 300 lbs just fine with no cracking. As always, never fish on the ice alone, always have a good length of rope with you should the need arise for a rescue and above all use your head.

Hey Big D
Nice report and GREAT advice. Roses usually pumps out some rainbow trout he ice, but I haven't been on the ice for several years.
Was mighty nice of you to let him ride in back of the rig instead of walking home,

Thanks blufin loui,
I've never seen an old man move as fast as my buddy did today. His eyes were as big as saucers I tell you. He was definitely scared. If you head up to Roses Lake before the next snow, I think you’ll still be able to see the slick he left as he got off the thin ice. I had to have him ride in back because you could just smell the fear on him and besides I've got cloth seats in my pickup.

Hey blufin loui,
I haven't really had time for the anchor yet. I’ll probably just tie a brick to a rope and use that. So much water and so little time. I've got a list a mile long of things I want to do to the boat before spring and when I showed the wife just the first page, she freaked out. I just sold a bow mount trolling motor and now I'm waiting on the payment so I can put the money into some new Scotty electrics. I’m hoping to be ready for the silvers on Lake Chelan this spring and then the salmon below Wells dam this next summer.
