Well, I had to get my fishing jones in before the storm hit and needed to be back at the dock by noon so I hit up the big lake for some late season cutts. At 8:30am the wind was already starting to pick up out of the Southeast so I headed for the North end of Mercer Island to make managing the boat by myself a bit easier. By the way, I launched on Mercer Island as Newport is closed now for renovation. I started out fishing 25' down and it wasn't long before I brought in a nice little kokanee. I was marking fish but without much consistency anywhere between 20' and 70' down. Next I I varied my depth between 35' and 60' and went hitless for a couple of hours. I switched to my new favorite rig for this lake (see my past posts for details) and put it out at 45' down. That did the trick and I soon had a chunky 17"+ cutt in the boat. It was getting close to noon so I packed it in and headed home. With the nasty weather setting in, I was glad to have used the Mercer Island launch as it uses I-90 as a "roof". It was nice to have a dry area to prep the boat/trailer for drive home. I did not see any other boats out on the lake and there were no other trailers at the launch. Surface temps on the lake were between 50 and 51 degrees F. The cutt had a couple of fish in its stomach, one which was pushing 5" in length so don't be afraid to go big on those lures!

Nice to finally see a report on LW. Good going! If I recall your "special rig" was a small flasher and white fly??? If so do you move at a speed where the flasher rotates in a full circle?

Quad - Gotta check the stomach contents so we can, "match the hatch", so to speak. Plus, it keeps the kid interested!

Snake - I haven't been on the rivers yet but I do see myself doing some prime time fishing during the upcoming holidays! I'm thinking Green, Sno and Sky! And yes it was my only cutt of the day, I think I've been trolling too shallow the past few times I've been out. I spoke with a guy who regularly fishes for them at 70'+ using cut plug herring and said he does quite well.

SlimySlab - If I'm using a flasher I want it to rotate so I adjust my speed accordingly. If you use a metal flasher, like an Abe and Al, you can tune it to rotate at a slower speed which can be the ticket at times. I've also used a dodger and done well, it gives the hoochie a slightly different action and the bows seem to like it better. I've found that the small 4" hot-chip and pro-chip flashers can't handle the drag of anything larger that a small dick night or streamer fly so don't waste your time with them. Also, Hot-Spot has a new 5" mini flasher that showed promise but it to couldn't handle the drag of the small hoochie I've been using.

G Man I'm going to go out on Lake Wash. a few times this holiday break. If you'd like to join me on my boat you are more than welcome. I have a lot of info on LW and from your reports I can see it is no stranger to you, as well.
