So it was an ok day, and obviously a bit cold. Before having to help the wife with all the turkey preparing, i decided to hit the lake for a quickie. Boated a bit past the University of Washington bay area and stopped at this one big bridge (sorry, forgot the name of it, but if you're familiar with the area, you'd probably know what i'm talking about). Decided to fish deep first with a jig/pig (1/2 ounce, twin tail grub trailer, pumpkin color) at about 20-30 feet of water. No good.

Then i tied on a 2-3'' jerkbait (shad colored). I doubted i would catch any fish that shallow, but i went under the bridge and gave it a try. First cast...... i waited for the ripples to subside.... and then i perform my first twitch of the rod... BAM! Had a monster smallie on.

Eventually landed the hog. It measured to be about 5-6 lbs, a personal record. I was dumbfounded at how shallow this fish was cause you know, most jerkbaits can only run from 1 to 5 feet of water especially with a stop and go twitching-pause presentation. and with below 55 degree water.... dang. But yea, good fishin bro.

Tight lines

Wow BBD, I am impressed and now, salivating. I want to make sure I know where you were pullin' that hog in as I fish Union and Washington in the winter. Was the "one big bridge" a draw bridge, the last one before the lake out of the canal (Montlake Bridge)?

Or was it a smaller wood structure in the nature area of the bay?

Thanks,
