thought i would go for a change up since i can't catch any salmon this year, plus i always tell myself that i will fish the lakes in fall' but i never do. Anyway, i started out by watering the lawn in the day time in hopes of nightcrawlers being on top of the grass, which they were, man i got about ten big night crawlers in about twenty minutes. i had the wife go out with me and see how fast those guys are, it took here about ten tries for she caught one. i haven't got worms that way since i was in elementary school, it is still fun though(and free).
i arrived at the lake about 6:30am or so stared off trolling a small dodger with a worm about 24" behind, first fish was a crappie maybe 7". i was shocked to catch one trolling even though a few mos. ago in the same spot i caught a blue gill trolling also. After an hour or so and no other bites switched to rapalas, trolled all speeds but no trout, switched to bobber and worm caught caught some pumpkin seed and a few small lmbs. i still wanted to get some bows, went back to rapalas again still nothing. My freind called me so i couldn't keep rowing so went back to worm, but i put on a small regular marsh mellow( that i stole from the kids at home) and a split shot and let it sink to bottom in middle of lake and talked to my buddy for a while. As soon as i hung up the rod tip dropped down, but it was a different type of bite, i set the hook and felt a lot of weight, i knew it wasn't a trout or bass cuz of the fight, it was a channel cat (i think) about 3 or 4 lbs, they fight pretty good to. i tried to take picts. w/ camera phone and put it back . tried a little longer same way but nothing else. Went back to trolling for a couple of hours but still no trout. right at boat launch caught a perch a bout 8". Good day, all fish released, and my first channel, glad i went to lake. water was warmer than the air and it was raining. couldn't figure out how to save pics to computer to post

Catching fish always makes for a good day on the water, Procaster...
Your story about the night crawler hunt brings back great memories from years back.
We used to do the same lawn watering routine, then after dark we would put red cellophane over our flashlight lenses, and sneak up on them...don't think my back would take that bent-over abuse these days but we did well back then.

I caught my biggest bluegill trolling a worm at Whitman this year. How were the weeds?
