I went fishing with four other family members for the first time at Lake Chelan. Since we do not have a boat with downriggers, we booked a charter with Darrell and Dad's guide service. First, let me say if you plan on fishing Chelan, this is a highly reputable company and they work excruciatingly hard to make sure everyone has a great time and catch fish. Our guide was Andy, and I think he must have walked ten miles in that boat, bouncing between downrigger to downrigger, making adjustments. He was a great guy and did an awesome job. Kudos!
We started our adventure at six am, and fished almost directly across the lake from Manson (I can't remember the name of the point). We had our first five or six fish in the boat within the first half hour, and from there the action slowed, until finally, we could no longer get bites for the last hour of the trip. It wasn't for lack of trying though. We ended up catching ten in total, the biggest three being 8 pounds, 7.5 pounds and 6 pounds. The others ranged between three and five pounds. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the lucky ones to hook into a lunker. My biggest was roughly four or five pounds (still a nice fish though).
The bait was a pink flatfish trolled with a downrigger on the bottom at about 160 feet of water. The weather was very warm, and the lake was calm (a perfect day on the lake). I will be back again, to catch a ten pounder!!!!!
Once again, a big recomendation to the guys at Darrell and Dad's. Good work, good service.
