I would give today zero stars if there was an option. We were so disappointed after reading some promising reports lately and had a great forecast. We got completely blanked. We couldn't even catch a fish on the FF screen.
What a curious day. Other than some wind, it was a perfect day. However, I could count the number of fish I marked on the FF on one hand. We ringed the SE bay first, nothing. Not even any young chasers of any species. We fished the point between the SE and NE bay. Nothing. We ringed the NE bay, nothing. We worked the width of the S end. Nothing. We parked & fished the SE corner where I'd had luck a few weeks ago. Nothing.
We fished right up against the pads, 20-30ft off, and everywhere from 10ft to 20 feet deep, trying to target the 12-15' we had read was the sweet spot. We even trolled across the middle of the lake and came up empty on the FF and the lure.
It was just so unusual to not see any immature fish doing the curious chase thing or see anything on the FF. We tried black, silver, yellow and green curly-tail jigs, spinners, rattle baits, rapalas, dropshots.
We fished about 8am to 2pm. Maybe evenings are better. We opted last minute to hit Newman instead of Badger because we figured minus the longer drive we could fish longer. Shoulda stuck with Plan A.
