Arrived at Newman Lake about 6:30am and were fishing before 7:00am. Dense fog covered the lake this morning so I had to motor along slowly until we reached the first target area. We weren't there 10 minutes before my wife put the first crappie of the day in the cooler. WooHoo!
Continued fishing the same area at the SW end of the lake for the next hour and a half and the bite had slowed down quite a bit. We talked of moving to another location and decided we'd stick it out for a couple more casts. Caught a small largemouth on my very next cast and followed that up with a 13 1/2 " crappie on the next one! That's the biggest crappie I have ever caught! We decided to stay on location a little longer, but there were no more bites. So, we moved to a spot in the NE end of the lake and worked there for a bit and started consistently hitting the crappie. I managed to nab 3 more that were over 11" and a couple that were about 9 1/2".
We ended up with 7 in the cooler and let lots of smaller ones go back to grow up for another day. The weather was awesome, clear skies, just a hint of a breeze, and only a couple fun boaters to disturb an otherwise beautiful day on the lake.
Tackle was the same as stated in my previous report. Surface temps were a little lower this morning and started out at about 65 degrees but had warmed up to almost 70 by the time we headed in at 11:00am.
