Went camping at Riffe to do some fishing and tubing with the kids. We were there August 8-11th. We trolled home made gang trolls that I made before we left. I put five spinner blades and red beads on a 12 inch wire and used a wedding ring and corn behind the string of spinner blades. I soaked the corn in Kokanee Fuel, several days before the trip. Red and pink were the best colors. We trolled as slow as the boat would go. I was letting out forty pulls, using a 2 oz. sinker. My buddy was using a 4 oz. sinker and about 25-30 pulls. The length of pulls were from the reel to the first guide. We both caught fish.
We trolled along the south side , staying close to the bank, in 60-80 feet deep. We caught 18 on Sat. morning, kept 3 that were 16-18 inches long and 7 that were about 10 inches long. On Sunday, we did not catch any over 10 inches long, keeping six to BBQ that night. We let a lot of very little ones go, which were about 5-7 inches. All these were the coho, no trout.
On Monday morning, we drove to the Cowlitz Falls Dam to try something different. Should have stayed at MossyRock. The color was cloudy green coming out of the Dam and we only had one bite. Two people were fishing right off some steep rocks and were catching a few nice coho.
We really like to camp at Mossyrock, as the campground is clean, mowed, and lots to do. We fished, biked, tubed, swam and ate some good food.
