Hit up Lake Washington early Saturday morning and fished North of Sand Point. I lost one fish near the boat and my partner managed to get one in (19") for a photo op. The surface temp was down to 69F and the wind was out of the South and blowing harder than the 8-10mph forecast for the day. Although we marked fish at a multitude of depths our fish were caught at 45' down. My guess is the rest of the fish we saw were salmon, staging for their journey to Lake Sammamish. We headed in fighting whitecaps all the way back to Newport at 12:30pm. I headed back out by myself to the Lake at 7:30pm for the evening bite and fished till 9:00pm at the South End of Mercer Island. The wind speed was down quite a bit and there was a light drizzle at times. I got 3 fish to the boat (16", 18" and 19"), again at 45' down with the last fish showing a unique medical problem. Seems this Cutt had taken someones bait, hook, line and all. Monofilament could be seen coming out of it's back end, and it had quite a large bulge in it's stomach. I performed an "autopsy" on this fish and will later post my findings under the Freshwater Topics. If you want the short version, here it is: Found, one 8" pumpkin colored lizard with line and swivel, the hook was missing/dissolved.

What you are using is pretty much the same as we are using. I always use 8lb flourocarbon leader, at least 4' long behind the dodger. Also make sure you are at least 100' behind the downrigger ball, I don't think this is as important when the salmon and stickleback smolts are in the lake but now the fish are becoming more wary and you need to think "stealth". And don't forget to add some scent. I've had success with herring oil, anise, krill, shrimp and crawfish scents, I don't think it matters which just as long as you have some! Now hooking coho in Lake Washington is a nice trick, I'm going to be gunning for them in September when the north end of lake opens for catch and keep if anyone has the dope on catching them, I'd love to hear it!
